1. Use a black or white background.

Using a solid color background really makes your baby stand out in the picture. The background doesn’t have to be professional or expensive. A white sheet laid across a bed or a black blanket on the floor provides the perfect backdrop to take photographs of your baby.

2. Feelings are good.

Taking a picture of your baby crying is not just good for blackmail when they’re 15, but also good to help you remember what your child was really like on certain occasions.

3. Get down to their level.

If your child is learning to crawl, a picture from directly above them will be boring and won’t show the story. Dropping down to the floor will really give you a view that is memorable. Even setting the camera on the ground will make for a great picture.

4. Take a lot of pictures.

My daughter is 7 months old and what I’ve learned is that for every 10 pictures I take, one of them is worth keeping. In the other 9 she’ll be making a funny face, drooling or doing something else that didn’t show the picture that I wanted to capture. That’s OK because digital cameras allow you to take as many pictures of your baby as you would like and delete the ones you don’t want to keep.

5. Use natural lighting.

Whenever possible, go outside or open some windows to let in the natural light. Natural lighting looks better and is more forgiving than the flash on your camera or your fluorescent and incandescent lighting in your home.

Babies, as always is, the most expressive subject. They could grab attention like no other. They can create very stunning pictures. However, no one can predict what they will do during the photographing process, which sometimes will make us feel frustrated.

Photographing babies can be quite a challenge. Here are some few things we need to consider when snapping an enticing baby photos:

1. Be Vigilant

In baby photography, you are dealing with someone who is absolutely his/her own master. You need to wait for his/her grace. Thus never remove your finger from the camera. You never know when your little one will give you that smile you are looking for.

2. Choose a friendly location

Friendly here means comfortable and adaptable for your baby. Typically, the best location for this would be in-house. However, if you are planning to take pictures outdoors, make the location adaptable. Keeping your babies’ favorite toy or blanket can come handy while taking baby pictures. Also taking your child to a location before the actual time of shoot helps them adjust to the alien environment.

3. Make the child familiar with the camera before you shoot

Let your child touch the camera while you hold it. (Don’t place it in their hands because it will end up in their mouth.) Hold the camera in front of your face and then jump out and say peek-a-boo.

Ask friends, neighbors, and relatives to take pictures of your child while you stand in the background. This helps your child get used to other people being the photographer.

4. Do you have right camera?

Baby photography demands different camera tactics. The equipment should have high shutter speed (to get a picture when you baby is constantly on a move); less reload time and so on. Don’t forget to consider wide aperture lenses which will give you better nuances by isolating the babies from their background/foreground.

It is advisable to use a digital camera high performance capability. Digital cameras are preferred as you might have to take a good deal of pictures to get that perfect shot, with nothing to worry about the film cost. However, digital camera pictures may not look professional sometimes.

5. Catch the eye

Shoot at the eye level of you child. This makes the image appear more enticing and expressive.
